Interview with Sharkteeth Grinder!

Today at Kegger we have a truly awesome Mathcore band from Northamptonshire Sharkteeth Grinder, these guys are killing it at the moment and they are coming down to Cheltenham in April so catch them then, you won't regret it! Read the interview below!

What’s up guys! Thanks for agreeing to the interview, tell the readers a bit about yourselves!

"We are SharkTeeth Grinder Mathcore from Corby Northamptonshire we started out in 2015. "

"I'm Bobbo 22 and the vocalist."

"I'm Ross 22 and I play bass."

"I'm David 22 and I play drums."

"I'm Jonny 24 and I play guitar."

What kind of music do you play?

Bobbo : "We're a Mathcore band that take influence from The Chariot, Dillinger, Norma Jean and Raging Speedhorn. We've always played what suits us, in the early days we tried metalcore riffs and things but it just didn't work for us and suit us personality wise. Many of arguments later and I being a bit of knob we finally got the right sound for the band witch is Mathcore."

How did you guys all meet?

Ross : "Well me, Bobbo and Dave all went to the same school and hung out pretty much every day. When we finally started the band we struggled to find a guitarist then we discovered Jonny. We only really knew him as some mad guy who went Corby gigs regularly, then Bobbo found a video of him playing some Lamb of God song and it was spot on. A few days later Jonny joined the band."

Favourite local band at the moment?

Dave : "To be fair we're quite lucky Northamptonshire has a lot of very good bands that we've been fortunate to play with a lot of them so we're going to give a mention to all our favourite local bands! Acoda, Raging Speedhorn, Drinsipa, Flash Peasants, Loose Tooth, Blood Visions, Long Breech, Acolytes, Lay Siege, Full Contact, Switch Blade City, And The Exit Palace."

"But there's one band that have really impressed us all recently and that's 2 piece Grynn, little Harry and Sam. Literally just bass and drums no vocals but it's the best thing you'll hear or see. "

Top 5 Favourite albums?

Ross: "Misery Signals, controller"

David: "Underoath, Lost In The Sound Of Separation"

Jonny: "Protest The Hero, Fortress"

Bobbo: "The Chariot, Long Live"

"And the band's Favourite- London Boys, The 12 Commandments Of Dance."

Any new music on the way?

Jonny: "We're planning to hit the studio in April and get another 4 track EP done. But it won't be Volume 2 the follow up to Volume 1 we will be saving that for later this year. "

You guys are tearing it up right now, how are you enjoying playing shows and making music?

Bobbo: "We're literally loving it and wouldn't want to be doing anything else right now. We only ever started the band to tour and play shows and to do it all ourselves. We've been pretty much a D.I.Y band since we started, everything we do is off our own back we haven't had backing from anyone. Like you see some bands getting tours and stuff handed to them left, right and centre and you do sit and think god that could be us but nah it isn’t us and we're happy doing what we do. Why pay people to do things for your band when you can do it yourself. Shout out to Golden Deathmask, Goblins, Sickones and all the other D.I.Y bands out there."

what is the favourite gig you guys have played?

Dave: "Probably the couple of shows we did with Grains and Black Coast. We love those 2 bands and have become good friends with them both since then and played with them a wad of times, but they taught us a lot in them 2 days witch we all say has helped progress this last year and gave us the hunger to do what they're doing. Big up Black Coast and Grains we love you guys."

What is the favourite gig you guys have been to?

Jonny: "As a band probably seeing Norma Jean at The Craufurd Arms with Palm Reader. Bobbo literally pood himself when he got to meet Norma Jean he was like a little kid."

What would you say the favourite song you guys have made is?

Ross: "The new one, "Dead". It's a bit mad and it's fun to open up the set too. "

What’s the music scene like in Northamptonshire?

Bobbo: "Again we're quite lucky in Corby we've got good promoters who care about the bands. Marc Collins and the JAM events/Rocked up has been incredible the past 7 years in creating a scene in Corby we can all be proud of and because of that we've been very fortunate to play with some great bands. As in Northamptonshire as a whole it's very up and down, The Price Of Wales in Kettering is a great venue and The Garibaldi Hotel in Northampton is another great venue and with shows they're doing really well. Poetic Horror Pictures is a new Promotions company that's started in Northampton and they're pushing it really well, House of pain is another who push it really well. So yeah Northamptonshire music scene is pretty sick."

If you had to describe your music to someone who had never heard it before how would you describe it?

Ross: "4 Politically charged nutters making things bang really hard and shouting loud noises"

Have you got any gigs planned?

Dave: "Well Bobbo books all the gigs so he'd have to answer this one haha. We're literally taking any show we can at the moment March and April has probably been the biggest run of shows we've ever been on and we've booked a 5 date tour in April called "The Smelly Tour" and we're currently in the process with another May tour being booked. Yeah we're just taking every show as it comes."

If you could assemble a dream band, taking musicians from other bands who would you choose?

Jonny- vocals - Lionel Richie, rhythm guitar - Gaz Coleman, Lead guitar - Micha Monsoor, Bass guitar - Ross Davison, Drummer - Chris Adler.

Ross- "vocals - Jamie graham, rhythm guitar - Danny Twitter, lead guitar - Angus young, bass -James Leach, drums - Matt Halpern. "

Dave - "Eric Clapton - guitar, Brian Wilson - vocals - keyboard, Ringo Star - drums, bass - Robert Trujillo"

Bobbo: "Vocals - Dan Listner, Drums - Jake Crawford, rhythm guitar - Josh Scogin, Bass - James Hanson, Lead guitar - Benjamin Weinman."

How do you start writing a new track? What kind of stuff can inspire a new song?

Bobbo: "Normally we just sit down at practice and go through what ever riffs Jonny has in his and we pick out a few and go from there really. Basically we just play around with stuff and see how it goes we don't have like a special way or that we just jam out and any idea we have we all chip in."

I listened to your song “Purgatory” and it’s a sick track, are you happy with how it turned out?

Dave: "Oh yeah, we were really proud of the whole EP. Neil Hudson (Gutworm, Krysthia) from Initiate Audio And Media Recording Studios did a top job and got to know us all properly witch was good. Bobbo can explain the video."

Bobbo: "We'd seen loads of bands putting videos out at the time that we're all sick but just had too much going on and obviously had money. But we wanted to do something that was nothing, so we came up with the whole idea of just sitting playing Nintendo and smoking joints witch is nothing but it made us laugh. "

Who is the favourite band you guys have played a show with?

Ross: "That's a really hard one for us because we've met and played with some amazing bands and made some friends for life in the past year. But it would be Black Coast, they came around the same time as us and we've really got on well with them boys. Charlie, Scott, Matt, Joe, Jack, Marvo we love you lads Shout out to Goblins as well they're also our favourite."

How’d you come up with the name SharkTeeth Grinder?

Jonny: "We literally got it from a weed grinder sticker that was on Bobbo’s wall. We'd been arguing for a few weeks and none of us could decide Dave had a few rude ones haha, but we eventually agreed and it's stuck. "

Thanks for chatting with us today guys, anything else you want to say to the readers?

Dave: "No thank you for having us Kegger it's been wonderful, please go support the Kegger page and everything they're doing. Go support every band we have mentioned on this as well they're all amazing and give SharkTeeth a wee follow while you’re at it. Always support your scene, your local bands and your local venue. From Bobbo, Jonny, Ross and Dave. Thank you."
